245/45 R17 Tyre Review Highlights
Writing about the Kumho Ecsta PS71
rated 79%
After 15k km or so of street driving, I took the car these are on to my first ever autocross event. These tires held up extremely well for being an over 300tw tire. They jumped about 6psi when they got hot, but they held a consistent pressure once they were hot. Dropped them 5-8 psi at all corners and they were happy and consistent; no sidewall rollover and neutral, linear handling. They don't show any major damage from the event, but they probably will be lucky to get another 10k or so from them. I'm not sure I can blame that on the tires though, as the last 3 sets of other brands I've had on the car have also only lasted about 30k at most. They are pretty noisy after a while though and they tend to scallop the inner edge a bit.

After i read a lot of good reviews on this tire i decided to try it on my mercedes E200.
After a couple of months of use they are by far the worst tires i have ever had on my car.
In dry condition they are good with good grip and quiet ride. But in wet condition they are dangerous specially in conditions where it is dry and then you have a little water on the street they glide on the street like they are passing over oil.
I am already changing them after a couple of months of use, i won't buying them again.

This was my second set of tires on aftermarket 17x8" wheels. They were a bit oversized for the wheel width, but they did feel great. Kept at higher pressures to minimize sidewall deflection, which generally did not negatively affect tire NVH. I drive maybe 12,000mi/yr, and these lasted me a solid 15mo.

Purchased as the car already had them fitted all round. Replaced the rears in October and on legal limit by end of January. Approximately 200 miles of responsible driving. Rubbish tyres will now replace all four!

Writing about the Falken Azenis FK520

First time trying the Falken brand based on the many good reviews and tests that this tyre has earned. I can say that the tyre doesn't dissapoint. It is great for day to day use on a mid sized sedan with the occasional spirited rides. Dry grip is good from cold and it gets better when tyres get warmed up, which doesn't take too long. Wet grip is also good although I have not pushed it to the limit.
What I can say with confidence is that both wet and dry braking is exceptional, with many instances of emergency heavy braking (due to animals crossing the road, cars cutting lanes etc) the car felt planted and stopped safely, most of the time with little to no ABS interference even under full braking.
It is very soon to comment on wear but after more than 10k km they seem to wear normally. Sidewalls are thick but not too hard so the tyre feels comfortable over potholes and road imperfections. This also means that the steering feedback is kinda numb (mostly related to audi's setup), but it still got some sporty character and good steering response. In comparrison the Goodyear F1 Asy 5 that I had before were a bit more informative and precise.
The FK520 also looks good on the rims and has good rim protection.
Overall I'd strongly recomend this tyre due to it's characteristics, grip, comfort and most importantly it's price!

Normal driving on the XL version (judging by online inventories the default one produced) from proper snow and neg. C in Livland to warm dryness, 0 C slush and much less snow to around Regnum Hungariae. For winter tyres in general they seemed to perform perfectly competently, although once did fail to get any traction on wet ice on a very slight incline, sadly expectable without studs. No noticeable noise increase compared to summers and no noticeable wear at all. Seemed rather heavy/substantial in hand and with a stiff sidewall. The latter characteristic might very well have saved one of the rims on a particularly crashy pothole, but also made for a subjectively unpleasant firmness in general in a car with an otherwise superb suspension (the Sport version at that). So much so that one actively avoided any manhole covers or other imperfections on the road surface, which then motivated an early sale before the second season. For reference, the replacements in the form of Continental TS 870 P provide vastly improved levels of comfort.

I was skeptical at first. The tire looks heavy but surprisingly it is consuming less fuel than the goodyear asymmetric 3(which are completely garbage).
I am very satisfied so far, I have not tried them on snow and ice yet. I would buy them again.

Completely deformed tyres after 1 year of usage. Try to balance them 2 times, but after some kilometers you still can feel terrible shaking, strongly don't recommend this tire to anyone. I'm very disappointed with Goodyear, I will not buy Goodyear tires anymore for sure.

Had sunny tyres tyres fitted all round. After 1000 miles the road noise was deafening. Contacted seller and was told what do you expect from budget tyres. Cracks had started to appear between the treads. Had the car checked by a mechanic for wheel bearings due to the noise but they were fine front and back.
The noise got even worse with wear.
After 5000 deafening miles I bit the bullet and replaced them with Devanti tyres. Results is bliss I can hear my engine again.
Unless you have a wheel barrow I would advise not to fit sunny tyres although they may be good for children’s swings.

Grip in both dry and wet is simply amazing. Steering response and precision are not great, and that is putting it mildly, both of those are due to a very soft side wall, but you will have a hard time finding a tire that grips more than the evo3 (when the steerig lock is big enough to make it grip). Inspite of the lackluster responsivenes and feedback, it is really easy to drive at the limit as the tire is very forgiving to driver errors.
While the wet grip is very good, the tire does tend to aquaplane a lot sooner than similar tires from other manufacturers. This is probably the quietest tire I have ever driven. Somehow this tire eats up smaller bumps as if you are riding on air, but is terrible at handling bigger bumps. So far I also observed a surprising resistance to punctures displayed by this tire, but this seems to be one of the most often overlooked achievements of most premium manufacturers in the last 10 years.
