255/35 19 Tyre Review Highlights

Michelin Pilot Sport 5 rated 94% while driving a Audi S4
Driving on a combination of roads for 100 spirited miles
All our three cars in our house hold we all use Michelin tyres. The Michelin sport pilot 5 is Michelins latest range. We have been using them a while now. It does everything a pilot 4 does. One can really trust and have a lot of confidence in the tyres to perform and do the job they were made to do. I have an S4 Audi and by God the pilot 5s are tremendous. Grips the road like glue. The car with the tyres handle superbaly. Obviously if you foot down all the time the tyres will grip but mileage will not be high but if you drive normally the mileage will be quite high. I got my pilot 5s on offer from Michelins promotion just in March so be quick to get £40 of two tyre. I recommend all high performance car owners to get the pilot 5 tyres. They are very reliable. This review is unbiased I have paid fully for my Michelin tyres.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 67% while driving a Audi A5
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 easy going miles
I know how the Asymmetrical 6 is such a favourite and how well reviewed it was. But on the A5 which sits lower, my biggest gripe would be the road feedback. On certain road surfaces, the car glides through while providing some feedback, On rough surfaces, it seems to be highlighting every crevices undulation on the road which makes it very uncomfortable. I do not appreciate after riding an hour in the car and probably due to thin profile of the tyres, that road feedback travels into the cabin and makes the car just feel out of place. The tyres perform well on handling, on grip, on braking distance, on quietness, it was sublime. The road contact patch they boast of actually backfires in a hot country with terrible roads - Singapore.

Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3 rated 81% while driving a BMW M240i
Driving on a combination of roads for 5000 spirited miles
Great overall UHP winter tire. They go on my 2022 BMW M240i xDrive in the fall and come off in the spring using 2 sets of identical wheels year-round. During the summer I run on Michelin PS4S so for several days each year I get to A/B compare this tire against one of the best tires ever made. The only difference in the tires being the front winters are 225/40/19's and the front summers are 245/35/19's. Rears are all 255/35/19's as I run a staggered setup. The major differences between the two tires are the road noise (higher on the Pirelli's) and a little more "sway" in the Pirelli's when pushing the car around bends. What I find impressive though is how well the Pirelli's communicate what they are doing. They have a very linear and predictable feel like the PS4S so I always know how much grip I have left which makes using them in winter more enjoyable as you can really drive the car as intended in the dry. The tires also don't need to be warmed up and feel compliant right out of the gate on a cold start and go. In the rain they behave as expected and hydroplane less than the PS4S do when driving in heavy rain with water accumulation on the road. I also had the chance to drive over a challenging mountain pass road during a snow storm in my first winter on them and really got to experience the difference. The tire was very predictable and kept me out of trouble. Combined with AWD, I felt completely safe and confident and drove right through the storm without any issues.

Bridgestone Weather Control A005 rated 42% while driving a BMW 420d
Driving on mostly country roads for 200 average miles
I replaced my summer Bridgestone runflats with these these all season tyres. Around 8°C and wet roads, I think the handling is very sluggish and grip poor in turns.

Bridgestone Potenza S001 rated 44% while driving a Alfa Romeo Giulia q4 2.0T 280+
Driving on a combination of roads for 10000 average miles
I have been running these tyres in a staggered setup, 225/40 R19 in front, 255/35 R19 in back. They really do have very good grip in the dry. In the wet I can't really say much as I try to avoid pushing my car to it's limits when it's raining. Suffice to say I've never felt any issues in the wet, grip was there and I never felt any aquaplaning.

Apart from that, these are probably the worst tyres I ever had. They are extremely loud, in fact at first I thought I had a worn wheel bearing, but the noise goes away when using winter tyres. They also do a lot of tramlining which is quite a scary feeling at highway speeds. Also, they just get generally unstable at higher speeds (above around 160-170 km/h), where the whole car feels like it keeps shaking from left to right etc. None of these issues occur with my winter tyres (Conti WinterContact TS870P), so it's safe to assume it's an issue with the tyres and not the car.

They've also worn out fairly quickly, I'm at about 4mm after around 15000km or so.

Overall, a tyre I would never buy again, it even put me off the Bridgestone brand as a whole and will not consider it for future purchases

Nankang Noble Sport NS20 rated 73% while driving a Audi A4 2.0 TDi 170 S Line
Driving on mostly town for 150 average miles
Bought these as a higher end budget/low mid range tyre. Paid £220 fitted for a pair. I’m coming from a set of Hankooks which lasted me around 5 years and went with the Nankangs this time as I’m sure this is roughly what I paid for the Hankooks back in 2018. Hankooks now up to £150+ so time to try something different.

Only been on the car around a months and my initial thoughts are it’s a decent tyre.

Road noise is slightly greater than the Hankooks, however I would add that the old tyres were on the limit. I assume any new tyre with full tread will make slightly more noise than an almost bald tyre?

I did also notice that the tyre itself, despite being the same 255 width as the Hankooks, is slightly narrower, leaving the rim marginally more exposed and offering less protection. Shouldn’t be a big deal, but time will tell if this leads to more stone chips on the wheels which were recently powder coated.

Grip in the dry absolutely fine. No noticeable difference in wet grip between these and the Hankooks. In the first week of having these fitted we had freezing conditions and I never had any shakey moments. I’ll add that in’s a sensible driver with the odd spirited burst when situation/conditions allow.

I think for a daily driver on normal roads, this tyre will serve you absolutely fine. Drive to the conditions and I don’t see you finding a ditch any time soon, certainly not because of the tyres.

I only do around 4/5 thousand miles a year so I’ll be hoping to see between 4 and 5 years out of these but time will tell.

Continental SportContact 7 rated 63% while driving a BMW 330e
Driving on mostly country roads for 5000 spirited miles
After removing Michelin PS4 tyres from the rear wheels. I noticed the sidewall was stiffer on the Michelin compared to the continental. And once fitted to the rim. The rim protector was noticeable smaller on the Continental. I felt after the initial 400kms or so that the Conti didn't provide as much grip in the dry as the previous PS4. You could feel the sidewall was that much more forgiving. So I was expecting more initial grip. It didn't, but it was more comfortable. Wet grip was about 85%-90% of that off the PS4. And when the conti broke traction it was less progressive. And it gives little on the way of warning.
After 5,000 miles and with the weather now a fair bit cooler at 8 degrees Celsius. The Conti now breaks traction more suddenly under acceleration, either through a corner or when driving straight. My BMW F30 330e is running a stage 2 tune and it's putting out around 380bhp and 640 lb/ft of torque. Plus the weight of the batteries directly over the rear axle adds another challenge to the tyres. So the car can be hard on tyres. But the PS4 and previous to that, the Good Year F1 Super Sport coped better and were superior to the Conti Sport Contact in both the wet and dry conditions. Also they both provided better feedback when traction became limited.
Maybe they work better on other cars. But would i recommend them for a BMW 330e. I would give a firm no!
I'll either go to a PS4 / PS5 or Good Year Super Sport for my next tyre.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 94% while driving a Ford falcon xr6 turbo ute
Driving on a combination of roads for 1600 spirited miles
was really happy with the asymmetric 5 in every catagory, now the asymmetric 6 is better in all bar one catagory with a bit of aqauplaning probably due to the lesser tread depth, otherwise its a really excellent tyre would buy again.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 rated 100% while driving a BMW 420d
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 spirited miles
Driving on Bridgestone Potenzas runflats 001 was a Bad experience, so I changed to the Goodyear Eagle F1Asymmetric 6 front and rear. The difference was noticeable straight away, comfortable, rolling resistance was noticeable, less Road noise than the Potenzas. The Grip in wet and dry was fantastic. Do not hesitate in buying Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric ,Driving my BMW 420d is far better Experience than before.

Bridgestone Potenza S001 RFT rated 47% while driving a BMW 320 d
Driving on a combination of roads for 13000 spirited miles
Not much positives I can give on this tyre apart from it having a nice sporty feeling when driving but noisy at the same time. Unreliable dry grip and wet grip is much worse. The wear on them are okay. I would overall recommend Goodyear over them as it's a much better tyre.

Driving on a combination of roads for 14000 spirited miles
Got these for my BMW f30 m sport plus and they are much better than the Bridgestone potenza S001... They were not good on wet and were a bit loud.. got the Goodyear eagle F1 A2 rft tyres and they are much better in terms of comfortability and grip both in dry and wet... Done 14k on rears but still plenty of life.
