Passenger Car Summer Premium Touring Tyres Tyre Review Highlights

Hankook Ventus Prime 4 rated 81% while driving a Volkswagen Jetta 1.4TSi 170Sport
Driving on mostly motorways for 8000 average miles
This Ventus Prime 4 replaced the previous Ventus Prime 3 set. Tyre is also a size up from 45 profile to 50 profile to correct speedometer error (10km/h error in Prime 3 to 2km/h error for the current Prime 4). Dry grip is good but tends to spin the wheels on slight incline if the throttle is not gentle compared to Prime 3. Prime 3 didn't have this issue in the dry. Wet grip for the Prime 4 is improvement over Prime 3, overall more confidence in wet conditions. Wear rate is supposed to be better than Prime 3 but have noticed a slight feathering on the side blocks after several long distance drives. Also noticed that the tyre pressures needed to be increased from 230kPa to 250kPa. Higher pressures actually improved ride comfort, improved handling and overall softness of suspension damping.

Bridgestone Turanza 6 rated 77% while driving a Mitsubishi L200
Driving on a combination of roads for 0 spirited miles
I have these tires on a Mitsubishi L200, size 265/60 R18. They were a little noisy when new, but after about 100 km, they stopped making noise. On a dry road at speeds of about 140 km/h in corners and when braking, the car floats a little on the road, the sidewalls of the tires are very soft. On a wet surface, they have excellent grip and they hold on like glue even in corners. Overall, I am satisfied, if only the sidewalls were stiffer. I have driven them for about 1000 km in total, highways and county roads. I will simply summarize it as follows: on a dry road, they have their limits, but on a wet road, even in deep puddles, they hold on like glue. Overall, driving with them is safe, but it is definitely not a sports tire, so at speeds of about 150 km/h and higher, you have to be careful and anticipate.

Michelin Primacy 4 rated 96% while driving a Peugeot 208 1.5 BlueHDi
Driving on a combination of roads for 40000 spirited miles
This is the second set of Primacy 4 that I used.

In the dry, it is outstanding. Whether turning, accelarating or braking the tire always delivers maximum grip. What is even more impressive though is the grip it has when WORN. After 60,000km, even with the tread at 3.6mm left, it still brakes and stops the car like a charm. This is the reason I will opt for them again and again.

In the wet, it is very very good, especially when new. When worn, it still performs very well. As for aquaplanning, I don't really know as I haven't been through more than 5mm of water at a great speed, but down the highway at 90km/h and heavy rain there was no problem whatsoever. Now that they are worn, I don't really know.

The feedback is more than satisfying for my non-expert mind as well as the handling.

Comfort is a bit above average in my opinion. I have had experience with BF Goodrich g-grip tires, which set the standard for me as concerns comfort. The Michelin Primacy 4 is acceptable in this field.

Wear.......well, the tire loses 0.5mm (yes, half a millimeter) of tread for every 10,000km. When new, the tread was at 6.8mm and now, after 60,000km, it is at 3.6mm. In my book, this is exceptional performance and money well-spent for a tire that has no drawback, keeps my family safe and remains strong even towards the end of its life. Well done, Michelin.

Buy again? Oh, hell yeah!

You can have a look here if you want to see for yourself what they look like now, after 60,000km

Michelin Primacy 5 rated 80% while driving a Lexus ES300H
Driving on mostly motorways for 40 average miles
Now almost 1K km after first installation replacing my Pilot Sports 5. I am sharing my experience in direct comparison to the PS5. Impressed with how tyres maintain grip on exceptionally wet road conditions (am from the tropical world). Going over a puddle of water made me realised that the car does not experience as much drag as my previous PS5. Great water dispersion / evacuation. Aqua planning resisting is good, and that is of paramount importance.
Handling and feel are not as good as PS5, at least to me, a small sacrifice as i am not exactly an aggressive driver. I put emphasis on safety, comfort and durability.
Rolling resistance is obvious, something you can feel, not just a number or a factor given by the manufacturer. It glided smoothly on the road, and as a bonus, tyres are so quiet and feels so supple, my car is now super comfy.
I have been driving over 40 years, and have used numerous tyres made by major brands (i will spare you the details) and i can attest that the Primacy P5 is the best set of tyres i have used todate, PROVIDED, that they last as long as what Michelin claimed.
But until then, I am fully loving those new tyres whole heartedly.

Michelin Energy XM2 rated 74% while driving a Ford Falcon BF
Driving on a combination of roads for 20000 spirited miles
Had these on various cars, Commodores and Falcons. They are our go to tyre, consistently performs well at all stages of life, and *decent* in the snow (for a summer tyre). Had Bridgestones, Falkens, Pirellis and Nexen.
Wet performance is absolutely outstanding. In the wet, even in a high torque rear wheel drive vehicle with little weight in the back, it still drives like its on rails
Driven in the snow with them too, and for a summer tyre, they were pretty good.

We usually get about 60k kms out of them before they have about 3mm of tread left, where we replace our tyre. We've had Energy XM2's on this car twice, and probably 3 times on the commodore.

Hankook OPTIMO ME02 K424 rated 50% while driving a Mazda 3 Skyactiv 2018
Driving on a combination of roads for 0 average miles
Non existent wet grip, especially at roundabouts! Have to enter round abouts at speeds of 20 kmph or less, else sure to skid and lose control. Has happened a few times to me. I'm now extremely careful when it rains and prefer taking the other car out if it's been raining.

Giti GitiSynergyH2 rated 10% while driving a Volkswagen Caddy
Driving on mostly motorways for 18000 average miles
Tyres were handling fine although I haven't tried other tyres with this vehicle. Wear was extreme!! Totally worn out after 29000 km under mild driving behaviour and not a particularly high load.

Pirelli Cinturato P7 C2 rated 97% while driving a BMW 330e
Driving on a combination of roads for 1000 average miles
I changed to these from P Zeros as i wanted non-run flats for a better ride and fuel economy without losing the handling benefits of my previous Pirellis on my BMW 330e. I have not been disapointed.

Nexen N Fera Primus rated 81% while driving a Hyundai Tucson
Driving on mostly motorways for 0 average miles
Nfera primus dry and wet grip is very good and comfort and wear rate is also good but my only concerned is that after 3years of using it, if forms a tiny crack in the upper side ot the tire and its not jst one tire, all four of them.

Continental EcoContact 6 rated 49% while driving a Toyota Corolla
Driving on a combination of roads for 0 average miles
Continental Eco tire means 3% fuel save compared to Premium Contact, whereas the wet performance is 40-50% worse. I would not take this risk if the tire is not the default by the factory. The experience on wet road feels like the above numbers show.

Continental PremiumContact 7 rated 59% while driving a Volkswagen 2019 Golf Variant 1.5 TSI
Driving on mostly motorways for 18000 easy going miles
Performance dips noticeably at around the 5mm mark. The confidence I had in the tires previously were gradually eroded.

Continental UltraContact UC7 rated 38% while driving a Subaru Forester
Driving on mostly motorways for 400 miles
My UC7 Continnental tyres are two weeks old.
Initially they appeared very good for local driving.
During a trip on the M1,, Sydney to Gosford, the vehicle. , Subaru Forester was floating badly and needed constant correction, so much so passengers commented. It was very uncomfortable and the only thing this normally great handling vehicle has haad is these new crap tyres. At 100kph wandering was so bad, we reduced speed to 90.
