225/40 18 Tyre Review Highlights

Kinforest KF550 UHP rated 10% while driving a BMW 525d E61 Touring M Sport
Driving on mostly motorways for 0 average miles
I drove this tyre a bit faster yesterday, with 2.9Bar of pressure in it. Tyre is 6 years old. At some point I was doing 90 to 100 (150Km/h) And the car just started vibrating heavily. One of the rear tyres seemed to have lost its form. I never had this before in my life. Never again will I buy this tyre.

Barum Bravuris 6 rated 78% while driving a Lancia DELTA 1.9 TwinTurbo 230hp
Driving on a combination of roads for 2000 spirited miles
When buying new tires, I hesitated between Sava Intensa UHP2 and Barum Bravuris 6, but since I was already using Sava tires, I wanted to try something new. I have to admit that I had mixed feelings at the beginning, I was disappointed by how unpredictable the tires were at higher speeds on the highway (130-150 km/h), as if I had the feeling that I was driving on ice in gusts, a very unpleasant feeling of insecurity, but that's why the comfort was at at the highest level and if my previous tire dimensions were higher (235/40r18), the comfort was incomparably better even with the NEXEN N FERA tires (225/40r18) that I had before SAVA.Driving in the wet is satisfying from the start. For reasons that I will now state, I did not want to post a comment immediately after the first impressions. I have currently driven about 2000 km with the mentioned tires and the feeling is completely different and enthusiastic. In the meantime, the feeling of insecurity at higher speeds and the car is much more stable in curves, especially when the car is heavier and I think that the tire is good for heavier vehicles over 1500 kg. The feeling of comfort remained the same and for that reason I would take it again. The tire is definitely good for the money, but you need to be patient and wait for it to wear out a bit so that the performance will be much better. My recommendation for heavier vehicles and for cars that use low-profile tires because the comfort is at a high level compared to NEXEN and Sava tires, which to my taste were too hard.

Goodyear Vector 4Seasons Gen 3 rated 82% while driving a MINI Clubman
Driving on mostly town for 30000 spirited miles
On my F54 Mini Clubman, these tires provide a very comfortable, smooth, and quiet drive, making them an excellent choice for daily commuting. Their excellent rim protection also helps safeguard your wheels from curb damage. They perform well in both dry and wet conditions, but truly excel in temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius, where they offer a significant improvement in grip over standard summer tires. After being rotated, they provided an impressive 32,000 miles of use.

Pirelli P Zero AS Plus 3 rated 96% while driving a Volkswagen Golf MK7 GTI
Driving on a combination of roads for 15000 spirited miles
Seemingly no compromises.
Uniformity - On first install, two showed high roadforce over 30lbs, even with match mounting. They were replaced by the tire dealer and the replacements spun well. Highest tire had 8lbs of roadforce and none needed more than 1.5oz of total correction weight, even with smartweight turned off and performance mode enabled. Excellent excellent uniformity.
Overall Driving Experience - These have exceeded my expectations and then some. Due to the great uniformity, forcematching, and a good balance, the car feels like it isn't even moving on fresh pavement, if you take out the wind noise. The steering wheel felt eerily void of any vibration. On fresh pavement, there's zero tred noise. On older/rougher pavement, theres certainly noise but its a low, diffuse grumble that very easily becomes unnoticeable. Impacts are muffled with zero resonance, while generally smoothing them out, atleast as good as you can expect from a performance tire. Stuffing them into a corner, they do communicate what they're doing. Slip is progressive and predictable. They're not squirrely on-center and allow for a very relaxing highway cruise with minimal to no micro-corrections, but once you start to point them where you want to go, they do so eagerly and with no fuss right up to the limit. These really do give the best of both worlds. Smooth, drama-free driving around town and on the highway, but they will absolutely dance on a back country road and put a smile on your face.
Almost 15k miles on this set and they show no obvious signs of wear. Feeling the tred before rotations, they seem to exhibit a near un-noticeable amount of heel-toe wear across the sipes/tred blocks. Their ride quality, acoustics, and performance seem to have remain unchanged. At the current wear rate, they will likely meet their warranty mileage. Side note, I got near 100k miles on a set of the old P-Zero All Season Plus on a previous car. Astonishing tire line, as long as they're a replacement tire with a warranty.

Falken Azenis FK520 rated 84% while driving a Peugeot 308
Driving on track for 0 easy going miles
Tested on a Peugeot 308SW, the tire offers truly excellent lateral grip on dry surfaces, on roundabouts and in curves. It's progressive to the limit, yet always composed and comfortable. The only downside is that it tends to deform a little when braking on dry surfaces, but nothing too serious. On wet surfaces, it provides exceptional braking and starts from a standing start without any slippage, all with outside temperatures around 28 degrees.

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A rated 71% while driving a Skoda Octavia RS Wagon 162TSI
Driving on a combination of roads for 12422 spirited miles
Factory fit on a Skoda Octavia RS Wagon. Excellent grip when new and for first 6,000km. Wore down quickly after and wet grip deteriorated. Harder sidewall resulted in excellent handling & feedback but a harder ride. Replaced with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 which did most things better.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 rated 96% while driving a Skoda Octavia RS Wagon 162TSI
Driving on a combination of roads for 18700 spirited miles
Upgrade from the stock Bridgestones which came with the Skoda Octavia RS Wagon. Comfort, Noise, Wet & Dry traction were all superb, as was wear over 30,000km. Never lost traction accelerating hard from lower speeds, unlike the Bridgestones. Excellent tyre and well worth the Premium.

Michelin Pilot Sport 5 rated 81% while driving a BMW 218d Active Tourer
Driving on mostly motorways for 15000 spirited miles
I fitted 4 of these on M140i 2 years ago. These are amazing all round tyres. Much beterr grip then the Pilot Super Sports * the car came with. However this tyres lacks some steering feel, its steers very light, coming from worn super sports it almost felt my tyres where still in the air, when driving away after fitting. The limit in dry of the tyres is very far, its almost impossible to reach on public roads. In the wet is feels like you are driving on rails. The are very comfortable, they smooth out ridges and other road imperfections. The traction was great untill the last drive, I got 25k km of out of the tyres. The sidewall looks nice, but the tyres look a bit streched on the rim and bit too much for my liking. I can highly recommend these. However for the M140i the Pilot Sport 4S became availble so I went for these now.

Kumho Ecsta Sport PS72 rated 85% while driving a Mazda 3 Series
Driving on mostly town for 500 spirited miles
At first I need to say, I bought them as brand new for price 65€ per tyre, so it's stands as value price tyre. And that is their problem, it's so cheap, why? This tyres behave better in compare to CSC5, so I dont understand why they're so cheap.

This tyre is much more quiet (while label say 72dB), much more comfy on harsh roads (in here in Czechia), petrol consumption is lover.

Now question about handling. It's new tyre, so it takes time to sit, but first impressions are great. Grip is comparable to CSC5 and other premium tyres. Gives not much response as my previous tyre Potenza RE002 that I had for few hundreds kms. But still, handling is amazing. On curved roads, in city streets and roundabouts they're really great and fun to drive. I'm much more confident and can cut same corners and roundabouts in higher speeds than with previous tyres. And quietly without squeak.
This summer isnt much rainy, so I have not much reference for wet conditions, but for that minimum that I drove in wet, it's ok. Grips firmly, turns easily and ride without wheel spin or warning light on dashboard.
I also tried higher speeds in motorway, it's calm and quiet, holding straight line easily and without vibrations (from tyres).

Thats my first impressions. Even it's low cost tyre, it's really great and premium tyre brand beater.

Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport rated 92% while driving a Audi S3
Driving on mostly country roads for 700 spirited miles
I live in Peak District and commute daily over Snake Pass into Sheffield using PS5 in summer and XC 2 Nov / April about 60k total. R8 road for commuting in summer but a challenge in winter ,temp and snow/ ice wise, hence needing All Season. ( Nov / April). Interested in what Michelin were saying about 3 Sport being = 2 PS5 and Alpine 5. So invested in a set July 23rd. Scrubbed them in for 200 miles. Fast roaded em some 500 miles to date. Temps of 12 c to 25 c. Wet and dry, Result in my humble experience ... At fast road speed in both wet and dry they are as near as dam it the equv of PS 5s at above temps. Only a track day could possibly show a difference. I think Autum / Early Spring were I see temps, over The Snake Pass of - 2c to 10c these new 3 Sports will have the edge over PS5. I assume due to Mountain Snow Flake Snow / Ice performance will be as per XC2s , ie. More than enough in U.K. Jonathan Benson talked about more sporty and responsive. He is correct. But they seem no more noisey or uncomfortable that the CX2s. Time will tell re milage but I honestly think they are as near as PS5s in the summer as to be in real terms the same. And for a price difference of only a couple of Beers a corner lol . WHY NOT . Hope this helps those considering.

Continental AllSeasonContact 2 rated 88% while driving a BMW 118d M Sport
Driving on a combination of roads for 12000 average miles
I have now driven over 12,000 miles on this set. I use my car for work, travelling weekly across the UK, from the south in summer to the north in winter, experience all manner of seasons, temperatures and road conditions. I drive a mix of motorways, A and B roads, motorway speeds and tootling about town and everything in between. I also use the run flat version. Firstly, I have to mention the wear. These tyres are possibly the longest wearing tyre I’ve ever used. They are wearing away slowly and evenly. I’m going to get many more miles from this set, they are incredible in terms of wear. Now, more generally, possibly the best All Season tyre I’ve ever used and even of the best tyres I’ve used ever. Performance in heat and cold is incredible. The car always feel sure footed and on rails. I’m not driving like a rally or F1 driver, but for what I’m doing, these tyres feel responsive, safe and predictable and are still fun in sport mode on a twisty back road. Wet handling is superb. I have driven in snow and these tyres are perfectly good at getting you through a snow storm or snow covered roads. Comfort is a little harsh particularly as I’m using the run flats, but not uncomfortable and I actually prefer that kind of feedback anyway. As reviewed, these tyres really are good at delivering well across all situations, even the current heatwaves we are having aren’t really bothering these tyres. So, I’m very happy and unless you are a boy racer, I think these tyres are going to suit most applications well and last quite a while doing it.
